ADJUNCTS
U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT (2008) 11/24
CLARK/ 84
Over the years, colleges and universities have been subtly changing in many ways. One of the major modifications has come from the hiring of adjuncts or part time instructors.
A department may have 20 faculty and 100 part time teachers.
At a university, the stratification goes like this. The most premier professor teaches one or two graduate seminars and writes grants or books. The more money they make the more likely they will remain at the top. However, if they do not bring in money and publications that can be used to get grants (money) they are punished by having to teach more classes at the graduate level.
That is level two, full time PhD’s that do not attached money must teach 9 hours each semester. Their students are masters and doctoral students, and in some classes upper division majors from undergraduate level.
Level three are the doctoral students who already have masters and are working on a PhD. They teach roughly 9 hours and also go to school. Their mind is made up to get the degree so they spend little time teaching.
Level four are part time instructors. They have masters, or master plus doctoral hours, or even a PhD. They are paid so much per class. They are easily replicable and poorly paid. Most freshmen have this type of teacher. That is unless they have a class with hundreds of other fellow students. Then a level two professor teaches that class and it may count for 6 hours of teaching. There are discussion groups and they are headed by graduate students who are working on a master’s degree.
Throw all that out at a 4 year liberal arts college. All or almost all are full time and they may teach 12 to 15 hours a week. All the classes are different in terms of subjects within their discipline. A department may be two people. They teach all the time. They may write and do grants, but for the most part they continue to teach full time.
At the junior and community college, a professor teaches a minimum of 15 hours to 18 hours. They may teach two subjects with different sections. Thus, they may teach an introductory course and one advance course. They may publish but that must be done on week-ends and summers. If they get a grant, they may instruct for 12 hours. There may be lots of part time teachers besides the full time. Again, part time instructors are a boon to the school. They are cheap and they are plentiful.
Part time people may have masters, doctorate or something in between. They generally do not have an office and may teach at 3 different schools. Some how they did not land a full time job and so they teach part time. They do not have health benefits or disability.
You may see a professor with a tweed coat, but they are wearing jeans. Very few smoke and if they do it is not a pipe. In other words, suits mean that an individual is an administrator. Faculty wears something casual.
As this is written, schools may go under or dramatically cut back on full time teachers, buildings, and repair. Students will more likely be taught by a part timer that is there as a visitor without much contact and they teach afternoon and evenings. They carry all their material with them.
The may want to teach with certain audio-visuals, but they are not sure if it will be available. They may have use of computers for all their students, but that is usually an exception. As the part timers continue to increase, the quality may dramatically vary from those who are excellent and really prepared to really bad teachers trying hustle a buck to stay alive. Education may be thoroughly compromised.

FISH FARMS
The future should have fish farms. They are self propelled spherical fish cages designed to migrate from place to place by solar power. Generally, they could follow various streams and head for port with a cage full of various fishes.
ELECTRIC CARS
Electric cars may have a new lift. It is a subscription based electronic charger. They are everywhere and can only be used for autos. They have a meter with a credit card swipe key fob.
SOLAR TUBES
These light weight tubes are so efficient that they can follow the rays of the sun directly and even catch rays that are reflected. They have lower installation costs and take less room so there is a savings of 25%.

AP
You read their stories all the time. AP stands for ASSOCIATED PRESS. If your local newspaper is a member of the AP they receive numerous news that they publish in their papers. However, nearly 100 newspapers have stopped their subscription. At the moment the ASSOCIATED PRESS has 3000 journalists, 1500 newspaper subscribers, and is located in 97 countries. It sells to 15,000 news outlets including radio, television, and websites. However, newspapers are dying. Some have survived with a skeleton crew and are using other news sources like CNN. AP will also be competing with state co-operatives, web sites for sports and related. Further, many newspapers are going toward more graphics to attract customers that are used to cable and the internet. Thus, there is less room for print stories. Soft news is also available and desired by the reader. So AP may find that it’s a hard go in the future.
PSYCHOANALYSIS

Liberals are attracted to government because they had or desired nuturant parents. Conservatives had or desired strict parents and look for less government. We also pick up
values from parents and one’s view become based on opposing parents or supporting them.
