AMERICANS BUYING FOREIGN CARS
______ (2004) “Car Talk” BUSINESS WEEK, 12/13, p.16
Twenty years ago, American consumers purchased 76% of their cars from USA automakers. Today, the U.S. share is down to 56.5%. Sales appear to be flat and the big 3 is really the big 2 as Chrysler is owned by the Germans.
Overwhelmingly, Yanks are buying Asian cars. When you add Japan with Korea, it is 36%. The remaining is from Europe.
