AMERICA’S LARGEST MINORITY
AMERICA’S LARGEST MINORITY
_______ (2005) TIME, 8/23/56
America’s largest minority is Hispanic of which 58% are Mexican. The next largest is Puerto Rican. The rest of the Hispanic populations rank 5% or less. They are split about evenly between Republican and Independent vs. Democrat. Split again on even sides with abortion, President Bush’s performance, and the war with Iraq. They favor immigration but oppose illegal immigration. They have grown 17% in the last 4 years and now total about 42 million people.
Their biggest priority is education and then job opportunities. Over two thirds want to assimilate into the larger society.
