Bible scholar, Dr.  Bart Ehrman notes that the Bible (New Testament) was written by men, not God.  Thus, there are some contradictions.

As example in the Gospels Jesus dies on different days in Mark and John. Luke says that Jesus is calm as he marches with the cross. Mark says he is distraught. There are other disconnects.

Most of the books were written by men “inspired” by God many years later. There were

many other Gospels also written that did not become part of this sacred text. The Bible was created here on earth, by individuals who did their best to reflect what had happened many years ago.

The discontinuities in the Bible should not dilute one’s faith, but moderate it.

Orthodox theologians maintain that the churches position on the Bible comes under the power of the magisterium of the church. That is a spiritual force that kept  reality in tact. Athanasia the father of Orthodoxy chose the books. Paul did not realize that his letters would be passed down for thousands of years. The Bishop of Wakefield wanted to include all the gospels.

Indicidentally, the sacred texts of other large world religions also have critics who maintain that their book was written for a particular era. Perhaps, the one book most likely to claim spiritual authority is the Glorious Koran. Mohammed recorded word for word from Angel Gabriel what God (Allah) wanted. Thus reality is thought by Muslims to replace inspiration.

The crux of the Christian New Testament is to sift through that which appears eternal and that which is time specific.
