CHANGING THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY
CHANGING THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY
Beinhart, Peter (2004) “A Fighting Faith” THE NEW REPUBLIC, 12/13, 17-22.

Zuckerman, Mortimer (2004) “A closer look at America” U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT, p. 68
The Republican Party won by a landslide and President Bush by 3 million votes. The Republican Party is in good shape, but the Democratic Party needs an overhaul of some sort.
The following sources suggest the following:
- Dems should be strong on anti-terrorism. This should apply particularly to target hardening of the USA. Beinhart suggest that like anti-communism, anti-terrorism has taken its place. Liberalism must purge those soft on terrorism.
- The Democratic Party should welcome pro-life and pro-gun people. The party must have a big tent for these 2 groups.
- The Dems should realize how much social change has come about in the 20th century. Majority of Americans do not want gays discriminated against and do not oppose civil commitment, but oppose gay marriage.
