SOCIALVIBES/THE INICDENT OF CHAPPAQUIDICK
As this is written a new movie will be coming out soon about the life of Ted Kennedy. Most of the Kennedy’s are no longer in politics. There is one Kennedy who is a member of the House of Representatives.
In April of 1969, Senator was in an auto accident. That accident ended his presidential career aspirations for the rest of his life. Although he did run in 1980, he was unsuccessful. The movie is very negative. My bias is pro-Kennedy. However, my position is also one of the BBC.
Senator Kennedy drove from a party with Mary Jo Koppenche. As soon they were driving, a civilian stopped them. Kennedy who one surmises wanted to have sex with Mary Jo soon thereafter got out of the car because he could no longer consummate the relationship with Ms. Kopppechne and she drove on and turned off on the wrong road to Edgartown. She died when Kennedy’s Oldsmobile drove off a small wooden bridge and died.
Kennedy went back to the party. He assumed Mary Jo’s trip was successful. He remained with the party. The next morning, he discovered his car was gone and Koppenche could not be contacted. When he went to the police he appeared relaxed.
He was notified that his car had sunk off the small bridge (not the Edgartown Bridge.) He returned to the party and contacted some of the best brains in the Kennedy establishment. He perjured himself about the accident and that was that he was in the car. He then said that he swam to Edgartown to get help.
He made a public statement the next day and presented this possible scenario. In other words, Kennedy lied, but did not kill Mary Jo. Most of the other girls at the party soon thereafter could no longer be contacted. It is assumed that they moved on with new names and identities.
His career continued on. He was a popular senator because; he would help both party members if they voted for one of his bills. His funeral was on network television. Most other Kennedys served in office for a short time. To the best of this author’s knowledge, there is one Kennedy serving in the House of Representatives.
The family is historical filled with victories and tragedies. They will be discussed relative to the 20 century.
