FAST TIMES OF RIDGEMONT HIGH SCHOOL
FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH/ A REVIEW
The story line is one of a high school in the early 80’s. This reviewer’s interest is the character so wonderfully played by JENNIFER JASON LEIGH.
She is a sophomore and a virgin. She is very attractive and finds that sex with a guy is not like the romantic novel or sex with a girl. Her first experience is in a dug out of a ball field and she asks a guy if he wants to f-bomb her. He grudgingly says yes. It is hard and cold. She is disillusioned but eager to find someone else.
This is the worst. The next guy is a toxic male. Sex is quick and loveless. In other words, he gets his fix and wants to leave. Jennifer is left alone.
She makes a third attempt with a real good guy. She does not know how to seduce him. When there is role reversal, a male is caught “off guard” and fearful. He needs a mild drug and soft talk to get on the bottom or top. Her try at this is a bust.
She gets pregnant from our “sex fix quick” partner. The abortion in 1982 money is $150 dollars. She approaches her toxic biological father and he is trying to make or game another girl. She breaks his act to ask for half of the abortion payment. In the end, she pays all of it and learns that the few good guys like the one she tried to seduce is really great and later they become involved in gentle sexual outer course. Guys are shit.
You know the drill. The few good ones are non-binary or already married. She may come to hate sex. That appears to be the response of a national random sample of married women. 80 percent don’t like it or want it very infrequently. The show cost very little and made a ton of money. You can see again or for the first time on cable. It is worth the effort.
