GOOD BYE/HELLO
WILSON AND HIS FAMILY IN THE 21ST CENTURY
GOOD BYE AND HELLO
Dad was holding Wilson in a big fluffy towel. Wilson in pain looked puzzedled into Dad’s eyes. Mom was driving and both parents were crying. Wilson was ushered into a memorial room where, the veterinarian gently held the dog and wrapped a piece of tape around his paws and placed a needle into his leg.
The first chemical was introduced into his system and his eyes sparkled at Dad who also had his hand on the dog’s head. After a minute, a second chemical was injected into his blood stream. Within a few seconds, Wilson’s eyes shot straight up as they were going into his brain.
Mama was crying again as Wilson floated out to the sea of the unknown. Dad gave out a guttural cry as the dog laid peacefully on a lab table. The doctor put her arms around both of the humans and said that their pet-kid was probably going to heaven. All three agreed.
Six weeks passed and both had clear non-ambivalent grief.
