Greedy People is a 2024 American crime comedy film directed by Potsy Ponciroli and written by Michael Vukadinovich. The film stars Himesh Patel, Lily James and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
The film was theatrically released in the United States on August 23, 2024.
Plot
[edit]
The film follows the misadventures of a rookie cop partnered with an unhinged and morally questionable local officer who is a familiar sight in the small bedroom town of Providence. While cruising around they get bored and Terry, the experienced cop, parks in front of a local residence. He leaves the rookie alone in the vehicle while he attends to his urges with the wife of a local businessman. While he’s inside the rookie gets a call from dispatch which he thinks is a request to investigate a burglary. After trying unsuccessfully to summon his partner, he decides to go it solo. Upon arriving at the address given by dispatch he finds the door afar and proceeds to enter. What happens next is a case of mistaken identity that ends with an accidental homicide. The partner arrives later after hitching a ride with one of the locals. He finds the rookie in shock and a large basket of money. They decide to abscond with the money and cover up the accident by trashing the place. The series of events that follow are reminiscent of a Quintin Tarantino/Cohen Brothers storyline mashup. Turns out the money belonged to a local fishery owner who was using it to pay off a hitman. The hitman threatens the fishery owner who panics and starts killing people himself. He is subsequently killed, and his mistress kills the person who killed him which creates a domino effect. All the major players come to untimely ends and the story is wrapped up in a neat little bow. It is a classic neo-noir morality tale.
