NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION
A NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION CARD?
Ripley, Amanda (2005) Revamping your driver’s license TIME, 5/16, 39-40.
One way or another, we will probably have a national identification card. The issue is a contentious one that deals with such issues as privacy, states rights, and identity theft. However, the 9/11 tragedy has changed all that. Thus, we will have some kind of identification that all must carry on our persons.
It is most likely that we may not only carry a driver’s license for those who want to drive, but a national identification card, a copy of our birth certificate, and perhaps related papers. This will most impact immigration workers, but also others such as students from numerous countries who come here to study.
Most other countries now have this arrangement.
