NEO-ASTROLOGY
Neo-Astrology in the 21st Century (heliocentricism)
Abstract
Neo-Astrology*( as introduced by this author) may claim that it provides an intervening theory that is a supporting placebic search of reality , that may provide non-correlative and episodic information and non-cognitive relief to an individual. It may be used in a number of ways as long as it does not claim scientific status.
Introduction
The premise of astrology is that the earth is geo-centric meaning the sun travels around the earth. However, modern astronomy strongly suggests that the earth travels around the sun. Traditional astrology also assumes that some planets have more impact than others on an individual’s psyche. One’s precise birth date and time of birth creates a personality that projects activities and / or events will occur in one’s life.
The author’s bias is that as a non-science, it may also take on aspects of the other two sources of knowledge religion and magic. In a previous article by the author a non-leadership sign was matched with an edition of Who’s Who. Thus, an individual would be under represented by the time period of the Zodiac sign. No significant difference were noted with the purposive sample. The author explains this as a tautological theory that explains everything and nothing.
However, over the years, astrology remains popular and may help relieve anxiety and give order to the world that is comforting to the individual. As an individual may take on leadership positions ,astrology must not be used. Portions of the Reagan administration were run on the basis of astrology.
Description
In a psychographic and demographic work up of an individual, inadvertently a portion of as astrology is already included. If the interview and tests includes the date of birth in assembling of information, by an outsider to the scientific centers, an astrologic assumption(s) may be noted. Most astrological research suggests that the field may give birth to valid responses. However, a “wrong call” may be reinterpreted by the believer so that is emotionally comforted . Most scientific research suggest that astrology is not valid.
The most that an astrologist can say is that it is comforting explanation for that particular person. One takes a leap of faith that it partially explains the person and the world. Scientific faith believes that that observable behavior is recurring and knowable. It also has a metric that can falsify a theory, or results. That varying levels of numbers can be an acceptable metric for research. Magic’s faith stance is that reality can be changed through a series of rituals. Religion’s faith is that a greater source(s) can intercede in one’s life and consequences are knowable to the believer if the Diety acts. Magic, Science, and Religion are the three major sources of searching and coping with reality.
It would appear that the astrologer can safely say, we are working on other variables other than the geo-centric paradigm and now accept that earth is sun centered and rotates around the sun. Thus, until we find a more accurate model we make our charts the traditional way and may also include other psychological tests until we can be a sun centered field. This new area is called heliocentric and once completely researched may provide or not support that there is more promise to the field.
Conclusion
Astrology is not going away. Two billion dollars is spent on it. There are other non-scientific explanations that will probably remain. Human’s appear to be non-rational and science may be too rational for a person to exist. Thus placebos may help the individual to cope or enjoy the reality that live in at this moment in time. If the financial cost is not too expensive, it may be a supportive placebic interpretation or explanation. If the theory of sun centered explanations are valid and reliable, one has a viable field.
