OPTIONAL STERILIZATION

An idea emerged from THE WEEK that some folks are choosing to be permanently sterilized. It is very easy to do. The problem is a political and a moral one.

At the moment, abortion is about to be made illegal. Children will be born but not desired. Further, in a globalized society they become costly stressors.

If sterilization becomes popular, unpopular people may be forced to be sterilized. This comes from political conservatives. Hitler used sterilization.

So, optional sterilization would mean that anyone regardless of race, color, creed, or anything else would be paid to be sterilized. Please remember that sterilized people can still vote.

Further, politicians who are people of color should be suspicious. People who generally vote Democratic may get sterilized more than Republicans. So, a sterilization data bank would keep the information on the demographics of people who get sterilized. Roughly, non-white people are now equal in numbers as white people, so the law or any law should keep a 50/50 balance in terms of vasectomies and or tubligations.

Can this be abused? Yes, so one must be cautious in conducting this issue. Incidentally, one can have sex more often and with more people. Condoms can be used to protect against STDs.

Or this is important; a couple with education and the ability to raise a child can get money after they have had children. Each child cost about 300,000 dollars up to college which costs a lot of money. The couple can use the money.

Please remember that sterilization is usually not reversible. If later in life one wants a child, then they can adopt. Or, they can use an egg bank in case a couple wants to have a surrogate mother carry a baby.

Last, the USA has as this is written has 340 million people along with about 60,000 to 70,000 abortions. Thus, the sterilization can be thought of a noble choice to help the planet and climate change. This fall we approach 8 billion people world wide.

On the other side of this issue, sterilization can be thought to be sinful. Thus, we have another culture war.
