PLAIN TO PRETTY

INTRODUCTION
For the purpose of this paper, we will assume that only women are concerned about their appearance. Why? Attractive women appear to have more choices in life. Further, a near pretty female with proper cosmetics and related can become very pretty. This should enhance her chances and choices in many areas. However, the downside is rarely discussed. That includes being viewed as dumb, shallow, and being hit on. Behind the male gaze is lust which is not considered a topic that is discussed in many groups. However, the pretty female may get more unwanted attention or other untoward behavior from both sexes. Further, the person who is very attractive may come to believe that they are necessary to get additional adoration and choices. She becomes unhappy because the world cannot work around her wants.

DESCRIPTION

Women may find that her body can help make short cuts to more money through marrying a very rich man, or doing advertisements for little work, but a lot of money. Many may find acting and other visible actions as successful. On the other end, acting in pornography, posing, are financially rewarding but demeaning work that can soil her life.

Studies indicate that women after seeing sex augmented advertisements feel inadequate and other than pretty. Although told about the virtues of internal values, they may see that it is a lie. In a mass society where one is not well known by a small community, attractiveness takes on larger proportions of pecuniary success.

The plain must suffer. This is a zero sum game. The winners gain goods and services in the material world and the plain must work hard to gain what is necessary to make a living. They may also live alone for the rest of their life and find entertainment where they can go by themselves or with other plain friends. On the other hand, what they miss may not be much. This is particularly true if they are not hassled by males. Further, they may have more opportunities for travel and related leisure if they are smart and can find successful work.

SOCIETY AND CHOICE

On balance, most females given a choice would probably choose to be pretty especially with the emphasis on attractiveness that is seen in the mass media. Their anxieties are also revealed in advertisements encouraging love and success with the right cosmetics and clothing.

Many of the above remarks may also apply to males, but those insights will be saved for another time. It would appear to this author that attractiveness may open doors, but may not provide the attendant happiness for females that are pretty. This is especially true if they have been sexually harmed at a young age. Pretty girls are a magnet to predators and therefore they must be forewarned about males whose activities fill most criminal justice textbooks. The key is not only the proper size, height, and weight, but also a symmetrical face.

CONCLUSION

One may notice, that I have avoided the more important values of integrity, honesty, as well as the treatment of others. I did this to underline the superficiality of attractiveness and yet recognize its importance. In an impersonal world, cosmetics appears to transcend substance. When we talk about males, we will find that some of the same problems are also important to them.
