Moxley murder
On the evening of October 30, 1975, Martha Moxley left with friends to attend a Halloween party at the Skakel home. According to friends, Moxley began flirting with and eventually kissed Thomas Skakel, Michael’s brother. Moxley was last seen “falling together behind the fence” with Thomas Skakel near the pool in the Skakel backyard at around 9:30 p.m.[2]
The next day, Moxley’s body was found underneath a tree in her family’s backyard. Her trousers and underwear were pulled down, but she had not been sexually assaulted. Pieces of a broken six-iron golf club were found near the body. An autopsy indicated she had been both bludgeoned and stabbed with the club, which was traced back to the Skakel home.[1]
This account is the 4th book of a killing of a very decent 15 year old teenage girl. It occurred in a tony suburb of Greenwich, Conn. This type of crime had happened perhaps once or twice before in the development. Most of the houses were castles and cathedrals. It was a gated community. Why is a crime like this still discussed? A young man name Skakel was thought to have committed the crime. So? Skakel is not a household name. However, about 25 years previously Ethel Skakel married Senator Robert F. Kennedy who was assassinated in June of 1968.
There it is. The young Moxley girl was killed by a Kennedy. Love them or hate them, this Kennedy was going to get away with murder. If no one knew, Skakels and Kennedys hated each other. Skakels were Protestant and Republican with money coming from oil. Kennedys were Catholic and Democrat and their money was in many things.
Along the way, the author and Michael Skakel became acquainted as they both were struggling with sobriety. They attended thousands of 12 step meetings together. The local police were overwhelmed and spoiled the crime scene. No one was charged. Two decades passed.
Both historic events, cold case investigations, books, and related and in 2016 the Kennedy cousin is back in the news. Michael Skakel has lived a hellish life. Or, Bobby Jr. describe his life that way.
There are so many people and details that the author provides a list and a chronological events.
The last few pages is the big surprise. Now go read another review.
