SOMA CLUBS
SOMA CLUBS
Abstract: A new organization of which the medical community plays a role is discussed.
Introduction: Soma is an herb that is used in Hinduism. (Cartwright, 2023), However, most Americans readers know “soma” as a liquid that could contain the masses into calm submission as in George Orwell’s 1984 (1949.) Orwell’s totalitarian society used this pharmaceutical drink to keep the peace.
Discussion:In other words, “soma” has a bad connotation, but it is recognizable .Clifton’s Blind Spot (2022) discusses the unhappiness of Americans and other countries with loneliness. For many reasons, folks live at home and live alone. “Soma” can be a name for clubs that invite non-alcoholic, non recreational drugs other than caffeine and related as a place to go to be “neighborly.” Whatever other meds or drugs consumed in the club must not antagonize the “soma” drink of a soda provided. It must be cleared by one’s medical doctor who has a list of “medications” used by the patient/consumer.
In some respect, these 12 steps like clubs do not have a stigma. They are essentially a lonely hearts public facility. A euphoriant may be discovered to enhance life at one of these clubs. Both euphoria and recreational drugs are listed in Wikipedia and written for the non-medical readers. One should read this with caution.
Conclusion: There are numerous reasons why folks live alone and do not know their neighbors. “Soma” may fit the situation. Medicine (social psychiatry) may again expand its wings to cover another issue that originally is social in nature. “Soma” Clubs may even be located even in hospitals cafeterias, empty mall stores, and wherever folks can meet and talk.
