UNITARIAN CHRISTIANS
UNITARIANS-UNIVERSALISTS NOW WELCOME GOD AND JESUS
If you know your Unitarian history and the Universalists joining together in 1961, you acknowledges that we were a group of respectful heretics. Fast, fast forward to today. God and even Jesus are back. Further diversity use to mean that the church expanded Christianity and then grew with religious humanists. Diversity goes both ways. If we can go to the Left, we can also go to the Right. A right wing Unitarian is generally a liberal Christian. That is me.
When religious conservatives move apart, they break up. When religious Liberals spread their wings, they add on. The Unitarian-Universalist church has allowed me to move from an ordinary Agnostic to a Christian eclectic. That second word means that I am basically a Christian Liberal and I honor numerous other world religions. My kids thought Christians always started a prayer with to MOSES, and MOHAMMED, to BUDDHA AND LAO-TZU, TO CONFUCIOUS AND KRISHNA, and to JESUS CHRIST son of GOD. No, it does not. In my universe it does. With nearly 10,000 religions, the above short list is the majority of believers.
I like the idea that many churches break up into smaller groups or receive material on the internet or posts for “their” wing. It works. The important issue is that each group wants the best for humans and the wider world. If you are into black magic, Satanism, and the dark arts, we ( respectfully ) ask you to leave. There is enough evil in the world already. We can’t and we won’t support you.
Most of my friends and especially U-U friends are humanists. DON’T GO AWAY. It you are with the church, it is your nest too. As a Christian Liberal, I would like to gather once a year with the Congregational church, United Christian church, Unity Church and even Left wing Catholics for a gathering at some large park in the summer.
Incidentally, while I receive material from the Unitarian-Universalist Church, I also get material from the U-U Christians. I have been a member of U-U since 1970. However, in 1980, I also attended or watched on Eternal Word the Roman Catholic mass. Okay, I am crazy. However, emotionally with Catholicism (of which I am not formally a member) I feel emotionally grounded. With U-U’s I am emotionally free to wander and wonder, to a universe in a grain of sand.
For me, God is a good God that holds back some until they are ready for heaven. Don’t give up. We U-Us can stretch in many directions and still survive. We will probably be a small church of diverse believers, but we will make are mark in history.
If you run into an ordinary Christian, tell them about us. We are the Christians. Tell them we really are diverse. We walk to the Left and others of us walk to the Right.
