WILSON WON 2 AWARDS
WILSON WINS 2 AWARDS
Brian Wilson won 2 awards over the week-end. The first was an arm of the Grammies. It is called MUSIC CARES and Brian won for his work to help cancer in the name of his late brother Carl who died of that disease. He also recorded with numerous other dignitaries of rock ACROSS THE UNIVERSE by the Beatles. The song was intermittently sung by numerous musicians including Brain Wilson and Steve Wonder.
It can be downloaded and the proceeds go to tsunami relief. The president of the Grammies mentioned Wilson at the end of his speech.
The other was a Grammy for best rock instrumental. It is Mrs. O’Leary’s cow. It is the fire section of SMILE. The instrumental has quite a history. In the first recording sessions in 66, Wilson had become so mentally disturbed because he thought that the song caused a fire to a building near the recording studio. When making the song, all the musicians were required to wear fire helmets. It was during this time that the rest of the Beach boys thought the album would be inappropriate and it was shelved for 37 years. The fire tapes were also the source of contention in the movie EDDIE AND THE CRUISERS. The fire tapes were mentioned a number of times.
Ironically, after all these years it gets a Grammy.
