SMILEY SMILE REVISION
“SMILEY SMILE” revised/ 50th anniversary
Nearly 50 years ago, this album appeared to be the beginning of the end for the Beach Boys popularity in the United States until about 6 or 7 years later. However, they would succeed around the world. As the years went by, the end of the 20th century, critics revaluated it as a “cult classic. For nearly 49 some years, this reviewer tried to make a more commercial and attractive album. Please recall, that Brian was up against “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” by the Beatles and The Rolling Stones and their “Satanic Majesties Request.” The Stones album was evaluated with mixed criticism but was commercially successful. The Beach Boys had neither. Further, another album called “Smile” could not be completed. So this album is to finish a contract and was produced in time. It was released with some songs from “Smile” and filler material.
The album had some outrageous cuts along with some beautiful songs. This reviewer found that he could only listened to one side. Thus the album contains both “Smiley Smile” and “Smile” material.
For the most part, Beach Boys went silent in the states until “Wild Honey” “Surf’s Up” and ”Endless Summer” in the midst of the 70’s. At this nostalgic time after the Vietnam war folks craved for more innocent times and tunes. The Beach Boys were the winners. They also had hits with “Spirit of America” and “15 Big Ones.” After that, there were more hit albums. They are the #1 band that originates from the United States in sales.
Thus, we present “Smiley Smile/50 anniversary/ Revised”
