Dumb Fun 6.5 From Me
Not sure why this has a rating in the 5’s. I’ve seen much higher ratings for much worse. It’s nothing amazing but it provided us with some silly slapstick predictable humour. It was an enjoyable simple movie. I’m finding it harder and harder to find funny movies these days. They seemed to have stop making comedies and many have the comedy tag added to them and they are far from comedies. Silly, lighthearted fun. De Niro and Freeman do a good job and Tommy was excellent too.
yep, all the funny bits are in the trailer
You saw it all, why watch the whole thing when it’s just padding around what you saw in the trailer? And they wonder why streaming services are taking away crowds from the cinema. Gimme a break. And make of it what you will with the 10/10 reviews!

The Producers meet Bowfinger
The Mash-Up of this movie is: The Producers meets Bowfinger.

No juice
Actors are doing what they can, the premise is all right, but the overall output of the movie is just boring.
I should not be surprised that it is a remake of something from the 80s, it felt like that but with the modern polishing.
It would surprise me if this took them more than 2 weeks to shoot because it seems like a cheap money grab with famous names but bad comedy.

A good, (but not great) comedy, which deserves a bit more attention than it got…
Not a great comedy, but certainly good enough for those fans of Tommy Lee Jones and Robert de Niro. Especially Robert de Niro has starred in lesser comedies in the past and however simple this comedy might be, it it still quite enjoyable, without getting big laughs though, because it is more amusing than straight forward funny.
The good: Tommy Lee Jones. If you love this actor (the older generation) then this movie is yet another example of this actor’s wonderful CHARISMA.
More good: Robert de Niro and Morgan Freeman act well, (although they do not act at the best of their game), but I still did enjoy those two acting legends very much so. Both actors are not really suited for making comedies, but they are still quite amusing to watch.
The story: Robert de Niro (washed up producer, who only has made flops) is in debt by a gangster (played by Morgan Freeman). Robert de Niro decides to con the insurance by making a movie that will purposely kill the leading actor (Tommy Lee Jones) and reap the insurance benefits of the actor’s death. Will he succeed?

Storyline
In debt to the mob and in need of a new money making scheme to save his skin, greedy grind-house film producer Max Barber (Robert De Niro) decides to produce a dangerous new film, all for the sake of killing his lead actor in a stunt so he can rake in the insurance money. But when he casts Duke Montana (Tommy Lee Jones), an aging, washed up movie star as the lead, Max never expects the depressed old drunk to be revitalized by being in front of the camera again. Unable to kill Duke in a basic stunt, Max ups the stakes, putting Duke into ever more dangerous situations. And as Duke survives stunt after stunt, Max unwittingly starts making the best movie of his career. A cross between “Get Shorty” and “The Producers,” THE COMEBACK TRAIL is a fun journey through the underbelly of Hollywood. Littered with a cast of unforgettable and outrageous characters, it will have you giggling.—Anonymous
