RABBI JESUS
RABBI JESUS
Papa (2009) UU WORLD, summer, 32-33. (Abridged)
This is an account of a story of Jesus Christ for those who are other than Christian. It may be an account that one average person would tell another in a faraway land. Both have a little information about Christianity and its various interpretations. It would be like two Christians trying to explain Hinduism and they both reside in Iceland.
Jesus was a Jew who grew up to be a lay Rabbi. He was a person of utmost integrity, gentle, lowing and very wise. His radical rabbinical journey was to the many who others would avoid.
His grandmother was thought to have an unusual birth as was his mother. His father was a widower with a number of children. The two met and were married.
Jesus was dark, black hair, brown eyes, and about 5’7” or more. He spent most of his life in Nazareth as a carpenter. At around 30 his message and the messenger were so mesmerizing that it attracted crowds. Jesus spent about 3 years giving sermons from his heart. No one is sure how much Aramaic that he spoke or how much he could read or write. He was an unusual Jew and some say with some transpersonal powers.
Most of the sermons were often heard by other Jews and many were encouraged by his words. In some ways, he wanted to simplify Judaism, but not everyone is sure about that.
Some of his Jewish ideas were stated in parables like little stories with a special twist in them. He used parables because his message would be more easily understood and remembered.
One was turn to the other cheek. . Another was the absent son who was welcomed back by his father even though another brother who was more helpful to the father was angry. That most everyone is your neighbor. That what little the poor give it is probably more than rich give in proportion to the amount that they have.
He died an unfortunate death. He was crucified by the Romans as a Jew that could disrupt other Jews and weaken a certain Pagan religion of Rome. There may have been a few Jews that were involved, but the Roman Emperor wanted Rabbi Jesus to die. By consulting with a few Jews, he could blame all Jews of the death of Jesus.
He was placed on a cross, died, and placed in a cave. Later, the body could no longer be found. Jesus had very close confidant in a woman about his age named Mary. He was also close to his parents and 10 or 12 close followers were mainly with him until the end.
Some say that he came back to them in an unusual way. Others say that he died for a few followers and others say that he died for all of us.

If you tell a group of people that this test accounts for your ability and tell another group that it is just a test, the first group do poorer. This may account for why some groups with stereotypical moderate self esteem do poorer on exams than others.

More people are pro-life than pro-choice. This is the first time since the decision of Roe v. Wade. There may be many reasons, but one is that it is easier to come to term and deliver, then give the baby with no questions asked to a half way station like a hospital, fire station, police department and related.
